About

Every year, you swear you're going to file your taxes early. And every year, you find yourself lined up at the Post Office in mid-April. Why not be one of the early-birds this year? It's March, and that means you should have all the tax forms you need to file your 2013 taxes. Here are some tips for getting it done now -- so you can relax when everyone's freaking out next month.

Find Yourself a Good Tax Preparer
You should probably schedule an appointment with a tax preparer now, unless you're planning to do it yourself. Here are some tips for picking the best tax professional for your needs.

What Can You Deduct?
The tax code is a sprawling mess of deductions. Maybe one day tax reform will simplify all that, but in the meantime, you may as well take advantage. Here are some of the deductions to keep in mind as you do your taxes.

Where's My Tax Refund?
What's that? You've already finished your taxes? Well, look at you, being all responsible! If you've got a refund coming back to you -- which, come to think of it, might be why you were so eager to do your taxes early -- then here's a guide to when you can expect that federal tax refund to arrive.

When You Screw Up (or Procrastinate)
Hopefully this won't happen. But six weeks from now, when the filing deadline has passed, you may realize that you messed something up. Maybe you misreported your income, or made a basic arithmetic error on one of your forms. Or maybe you just put it off to the last minute and need more time. Whatever the case, don't freak out -- there are ways to fix your screw-up.
