News: Fasting Could Actually Be Helpful for Overeaters

This week, the Washington Post is suggesting a controversial method for rectifying those holiday calories: fasting. Better known in health and fitness circles as "intermittent fasting," people used to think that skipping meals would slow the metabolism and cause the body to retain fat in case it was suddenly enduring a famine. But we've now found that it takes days without food to slow the metabolism, and going 16 or 24 hours without food can have some pretty surprising benefits.
