All About Peanut Allergy | The prevalence of peanut allergy is on the rise, and now affect 1-2% of the population. Almost unheard of just a few decades ago, peanut allergy is now a major health concern for schools, commercial airlines, and allergy professionals. While peanut allergy is more and more common in Western societies, it is rare it other countries such as Israel, where infants are commonly fed peanut products. A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that feeding peanuts to young children at high risk for peanut allergy actually reduces the chance of the allergy developing. | | Oral Immunotherapy for Peanut Allergy | There are a number of small studies focusing on the use of oral immunotherapy for the treatment of peanut allergy. A few studies have shown that after children had undergone oral immunotherapy to peanut for many months, they could then eat a large amount of peanuts (approximately 20) without experiencing an allergic reaction. | | | All About Peanut Allergy | Peanut allergy is the most common form of food allergy in school age children and adults. Milk and egg allergy are more common in infants and toddlers, but allergies to these foods are commonly outgrown by school age.
