"Does gardening count as a workout?" This is a question I get a lot this time of year and it's a good one. It usually involves some sweating, if the weather is hot, and of course there's lots of bending and lifting and pulling and whatnot. Maybe we could count some of that as resistance training and plain old activity, but is it really a workout?
It really depends on what you're doing. If you heaved 30 bags of mulch all over your yard or raked and pulled weeds for 4 hours, yes. That totally counts. And if you spent the weekend doing that? You should probably take a day off.
If you're not working that hard, you'll need to supplement your yard work with some other exercise.
