Have you lost and gained the same 10 pounds in the past 10 years? If so, have you ever considered the idea that it's not exactly the same 10 pounds?  Maybe that extra 10 pounds belongs to one of your friends, a friend who became so jealous of your weight loss that he gave you 10 of his extra pounds.  

It sounds preposterous, but it can happen.  Haven't you ever just walked by a piece of chocolate cake and gained 5 pounds?   

Exactly.
