Elopement in Dementia: Risk Factors and Strategies for Prevention

Whether you're caring for a loved one with dementia at home or in a long-term care facility, one nightmare you want to avoid at all costs is the missing person scenario. Suddenly, someone realizes "Joe" hasn't been seen for 15 minutes and then you notice that the side door is open. 

Having worked in the nursing home industry for more than 20 years and devoting much time to developing best practices, I've pulled together a list of risk factors and strategies to implement in order to prevent elopement.
