News: Can Even Moderate Drinking Damage Your Heart?

Over 60 studies suggest cardiovascular benefits of moderate alcohol consumption, but one recent study contradicts them all.

Researchers tested over 4,400 older adults with an average age of 76. In this elderly population, women who drank just 1 standard-sized alcoholic beverage and men who drank over 14 servings a week saw changes in heart structure and function.

Since this study doesn’t provide enough data to contradict previous study results, it’s best to follow the current recommendations of the American Heart Association. Men who drink, enjoy up to 2 drinks a day and women who drink, enjoy 1, but don’t start drinking just for potential heart health benefits!
