There’s a lot of hype around pills and potions that are said to help people live longer, but what does the science say?

Vitamin D is one that you can count on. It works to keep bones healthy and prevent some cancers and diseases, and in a 2007 review of  18 studies and 57,000 people, 400 to 600 IU of vitamin D per day was indeed found to increase longevity.

But there are some supplements that simply aren’t worth the hype. We take a good hard look at six more common pills in the article below, and tell you which ones aren’t worth your cash.
