This week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration drew a line in the sand: trans fat is not safe for human consumption, and soon no food sold in the United States will be allowed to contain the stuff. The FDA declared that trans fat in food, which is known to increase the risk of coronary heart disease, will be straight up illegal in 3 years, and companies have that long to remove it from their products. That means Ritz crackers, Girl Scout Cookies, Chips Ahoy, Froot Loops, and many other childhood favorites will need to change their recipes.
