Alcohol is a very prominent part of our culture that's regularly used to calm nerves, lubricate social events, participate in religious ceremonies, and disinfect bathroom surfaces. In fact, it's so commonplace that it's easy to forget the phenomenal damage it can wreak, but the facts remain: There were almost 26,000 alcohol-induced deaths in the U.S. in 2010, and one in twelve American adults suffers from alcohol abuse or dependence.
