From Daniel More, MD, your Guide to Allergies
Electronic cigarettes, or e-Cigarettes, have become extremely popular in recent years, with young people being the most common age group to try this new type of nicotine delivery device. e-Cigarettes are an electronic method of in which a water based liquid, containing nicotine and various kinds of flavorings, is vaporized and inhaled. Find out how e-Cigarettes could affect allergies and asthma.

e-Cigarettes, Allergies and Asthma
The device contains a liquid cartridge containing the flavored nicotine, a heating device that turns the liquid into a vapor, and a battery. Many of the e-Cigarettes available in the United States are disposable, and are designed to last about as long as 2 packs of traditional cigarettes. Other types of e-Cigarettes are rechargeable using a USB port.

All About Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic rhinitis is defined as inflammation and irritation of the nasal passages due to seasonal and year-round allergens. Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itching of the nose, and post nasal drip. Half of all people with allergic rhinitis also have a component of non-allergic rhinitis to their symptoms.

All About Asthma
Asthma is a chronic lung disease, which cannot be cured, yet can be well-controlled with close follow-up with a physician and appropriate medical therapies. In people with asthma, lung airways become inflamed, leading to narrowing of the airways. The muscles around the airways become more sensitive, and can react to allergens and irritants. Asthma can be a life-threatening disease, and there are typically a few thousand deaths in the United States every year as a result of this disease.
