 One of the most frustrating things in the world of diet and weight loss is when we start to regain the weight we worked so hard to lose.  Why oh why does this happen?  Well, of course if we go back to our old way of eating it will happen (see: 10 Ways to Break a Weight-Loss Stall), but there are other reasons we also need to be aware of, and it's not always fully under our control.  Stay healthy this week!!  Laura

Why We Regain Weight

 I've written a pair of articles on this subject: one about how our appetite hormones change with weight loss and another about how this affects our brains.  It turns out that what we call "emotional eating" may often be triggered by this hormone-brain connection.


Compulsive Overeating or Too Much Carb?

Although we aren't at all immune from the problem of weight regain, the good news is that a low-carb diet is less likely to trigger off all these emtional responses.  In fact,  it seems that we are less affected by compulsive overeating.  Here's something I wrote about this a few years ago.


How to Deal with Cravings

 Cravings for food that aren't related to hunger do hit us all from time to time.  Here are some of the causes, and ways to deal with them.

Alton Brown's Four-List Diet Plan

 This goes along with last week's article about Food Rules. Food science and TV food person Alton Brown has had success with this "list method" he devised to guide his eating.  It isn't super-low-carb, but it's certainly much less carb than a standard diet.  I wrote about it on my blog when he first came out with it, and  commented on it from a low-carb perspective.
