From Paige Waehner, your Guide to Exercise

"Does gardening count as a workout?"  This is a question I get a lot this time of year and it's a good one.  It usually involves some sweating, if the weather is hot, and of course there's lots of bending and lifting and pulling and whatnot.  Maybe we could count some of that as resistance training and plain old activity, but is it really a workout?

Not really.  At this point, I usually suggest that they should still do their workouts and ease into gardening, rather than killing themselves in the yard all day and then being too tired to exercise.

You can imagine how well that goes over.

Hey, I just work here...It's my job to make you exercise, y'all.
