FDA proposes 2 new nutrition label rules, fruit and vegetable snack handout, teaching tips for food demos, eBook for fruit desserts

Hi Usman,

News flash for 05/29/14: The FDA has submitted a proposed rule to revise the design of the Nutrition and Supplement Facts Label and for serving sizes of foods that can be eaten in one sitting. Here is a complete summary, list of links, infographic and timeline.

eBook: It's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month, and we're giving away copies of the eBook Fruit Tooth to celebrate! Fruit Tooth is a compendium of wonderful, creative, and totally delicious recipes that feature fresh fruit. Help your clients develop a "fruit tooth," not a sweet tooth, with these simple and elegant recipes. The post, eBook: Choose Fruit for Dessert, offers a look at the reasons why fruit makes a healthful dessert, and then it includes links so that you can preview the recipes. After you've taken a good look, you can download the book.

Teaching tips for food demos and classes: While you're on the site, be sure to check out the other article that went up this week, Teaching Culinary Arts Students: A Lesson in Creativity. It features lessons I've learned in the trenches as I've taught fun and innovative cooking classes at Johnson and Wales Denver. In this post, you'll find tips and tricks for giving engaging cooking demos, teaching health lessons, and working with a wide range of ability levels.

Free handout: The 2014 Summer catalog is now posted, complete with a handout on the 15 Tastiest Fruit and Vegetable Snacks Handout. All Nutrition Education Store customers will receive their very own catalog in the mail in 3 weeks but now is the time to get a sneak peak on over 50 new products including posters, MyPlate plates, bookmarks, sauce painting lessons, the Mediterranean diet PowerPoint and much more.

Happy Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month!
