 It's summer! Time to have a picnic, sit by the pool or on the beach, cook outside, and have informal get-togethers with friends and family. Sometimes disruptions in our routines can throw us off of healthy eating, but we don't need to let that happen. Summer is a great time to be a low-carber!

Note: I want to let you know that big changes are afoot at About.com.  Soon you will see some shifts in where to find things, and a very different look for the site.  I've been busy getting ready for the redesign, so I haven't written as much new material in recent weeks, but I hope you will find the new changes helpful and inviting.  Laura

 There are a lot of reasons why it's easier to eat low-carb in the summer, and I share some of them with you, along with low-carb tips especially for enjoying the summer. 


New Cookbooks from CarbSmart

 CarbSmart has just come out with its third little cookbook - these are inexpensive short cookbooks by top low-carb recipe developers like Dana Carpender.


The Doctor with the Happy Patients

 Meet Dr. Mary Vernon, tireless and enthusiastic low-carb advocate.  Learn how she discovered the power of low-carb diets and how she uses it with her patients.


Carb Confusion

 This is a pet peeve of mine.  Once the door was open to calling a potato a "carb" suddenly we're hearing about the nutrients in carbs, and that lettuce is a carb.  It's confusing.  Of course, the term "carb" is also used for the amount of carbohydrate in a food.
